About the FIRE Calculator
FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early. The idea is to build a corpus large enough that you can live on its returns. This calculator estimates how many years that takes.
Enter your expenses, savings, how much you invest and your assumptions. Use cautious numbers.
Formula used
Corpus needed = yearly expenses (grown by inflation) ÷ safe withdrawal rate. The calculator finds the first year your corpus reaches that number.
Frequently asked questions
What withdrawal rate should I use?
Lower rates are more cautious. A common starting point is 3% to 4%, but nothing is guaranteed.
Does it include taxes and health costs?
Only if you include them in your expenses. Add a buffer for medical costs.
Is early retirement realistic?
It depends on your savings rate and returns. Test different numbers and plan for a margin of safety.
