About the Loan Prepayment Calculator

Paying a little extra toward your loan reduces the principal, so you pay less interest and finish sooner. This calculator shows the effect of an extra monthly payment, a yearly lump sum, or both.

Enter your loan details and your extra payments to see the new tenure and the interest saved.

Formula used

Each month: interest = balance × r; principal paid = EMI + extra − interest. A lump sum is deducted from the balance at the end of each year.

Frequently asked questions

Should I reduce tenure or EMI after prepaying?

Reducing the tenure saves more interest. This calculator assumes the EMI stays the same.

Are there prepayment charges?

For floating-rate loans to individuals, banks generally cannot charge a penalty. Check your loan terms, especially for fixed-rate loans.

Is prepaying better than investing?

It depends on your loan rate, your returns and your risk comfort. Compare both before you decide.
